Several regulations first appeared as part of the Affordable Care Act. Among them was a requirement for all taxpayers to carry some form of health insurance. Starting in 2015 (for the 2014 tax year), taxpayers are required to report, as part of their tax return, whether or not they actually did carry health insurance. For 2014, the IRS will take you at your word, but beginning in 2015, they will know for certain whether or not you carried insurance, for how long and how much you paid.
